PTO Parental Involvement Policy

Beehive Sci & Tech Academy believes that active participation of parents in decision-making is a key to success of the school. We ask that each parent donate 10 hours of volunteer time each semester. There are many opportunities for parents to be involved at the school. We offer after school tutoring and clubs in math, science, and technology related classes and we encourage parents to participate in these activities. We ask parents to volunteer time during lunch times, to help with our summer school programs, to volunteer time working at our book fairs, or to be a parent volunteer on our fieldtrips and other school excursions. Parents who volunteer during school time will need to have a background check in accordance with state law. All parents and guardians will be asked to be members of the Parent Teacher Organization. By holding monthly meetings, the Parent Teacher Organization will monitor the progress of the school and provide quarterly reports to the Governing Board. Meetings will also focus on how parents and teachers can work together to monitor the child’s progress in order to improve student achievement.

All parents will be eligible and encouraged to attend the quarterly board meetings.

A parent orientation will be held before the beginning of each school year.  All parents will be encouraged to attend. The parent orientation will allow parents to meet the BSTA staff, be assured of their rights and responsibilities to be involved in their child’s education, and introduce the day-to-day functioning of BSTA.

On a daily basis, parents will have the opportunity to contact teachers and check students’ progress using CoolSIS. Parents are encouraged to visit CoolSIS regularly to see and assess the learning environment and their student’s progress. From the CoolSIS site, parents will have a direct link to teachers email addresses and are encouraged to communicate with them whenever needed.

Beehive Academy encourages and supports the rights of parents to be a part of their students’ educational process.
