Located at 2165 East 9400 South in Sandy, UT, Beehive Science and Technology Academy is a non-profit, tuition-free, K – 12 public charter school established in 2005. Beehive Academy provides a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) focused curriculum and programs with other courses designed to also offer students a solid foundation in humanities and social science. The school’s success is reflected in the institution’s growth, graduation rate, and increasing operating budget, which is directly tied to enrollment that has grown from 315 to currently 920 students.

Even though Beehive Science and Technology offers many of the same types of traditional classes including English, history, and art, as other middle schools/high schools, Beehive has earned a reputation as being one of, if not the leading school, in the area of STEM. The Academy is continually embracing new technology in transforming how students learn. Project-based learning is at the center of Beehive Academy’s STEM learning and certification programs, leading to increased student engagement, collaborative work ethic and real-world culminating projects that showcase students’ understanding and acquisition of academic vocabulary, math conceptual mastery, problem-solving/reasoning skills and computational fluency-automaticity.

In addition, Beehive Academy expands opportunities for their students to explore other interests by offering a variety of elementary clubs including Lego programs, science, math technology, and arts. Secondary programs also include competitive and student interest clubs, sports, world cultures, and student life activities with festivals, middle and high school student dances, and student body supported events.

Over the years, Beehive has received many recognitions and awards of distinctions. Recent notable achievements include receiving 2025-2026 Best High Schools recognition and ranked by US News & World Report as the #1 Charter High School in Utah. This marks the fifth consecutive year the school received this ranking recognition. Beehive Academy is also rich in cultural diversity with students representing 82 different cultural identities, come from 48 different countries, and originated in 27 different states in the U.S. Over 45% of the Beehive Science and Technology students speak at least one additional language than English at home with families actively communicating in 60 different languages. Hanifi Oguz, Beehive Academy Executive Director said, “Our students have come from all over the world to learn at Beehive with a focus on the educational base of STEM. We recognize how the diverse and multicultural society of our school community provides students with a solid foundation to achieve academic excellence and personal skills.” Mr. Oguz added, “Beehive Academy also encourages students to pursue education beyond high school by offering a concurrent enrollment program.  This program allows juniors and seniors to take college courses for credit and get high school credit at the same time.  Most Beehive students graduate with one year to 18 months’ worth of college credit. In addition, Beehive prepares students for college through its one-on-one Student Occupation Plan meetings, along with its 11th grade ACT/SAT preparatory courses.”
