Sandy, Utah— Beehive Science and Technology Academy, a Sandy-based, tuition-free, public charter school since 2011, announces Scott Colby, 11th grade Financial Literacy CTE (Career and Technical Education) and stock market club advisor at Beehive Science and Technology Academy, was awarded the 2026 Utah Financial Education Student Empowerment Award. The award was presented on Monday, June 22, at the Utah State Capitol where awardees were also inducted into the Utah Financial Education Hall of Fame.

“I am honored to have been selected as the recipient of the 2026 Utah Financial Education Student Empowerment Award,” said Colby. “Receiving this award is especially meaningful because it reflects the impact that financial education can have beyond the classroom. It represents the confidence that students, parents, colleagues, administrators, and state financial education leaders have in the work being done to help young people develop the knowledge, skills, and habits necessary for long-term financial success. I am grateful for the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of students.”

The Utah Financial Education Hall of Fame celebrates the best K-12 educators, school administrators, and community partners in the state. It was established in 2004 by the Utah Office of State Treasurer, the Utah Jump$tart Coalition, and the Utah State Board of Education to recognize individuals who have made exceptional contributions to financial education throughout the state. The Student Empowerment Award is presented to an educator who goes beyond teaching financial literacy by helping students take ownership of their financial futures. The award recognizes educators who mentor students, help them set and achieve financial goals, and inspire lifelong financial responsibility and success. As part of this recognition, the recipient receives recognition at the Hall of Fame ceremony, a commemorative trophy, a $400 monetary award, and recognition through Hall of Fame publications and related materials.

Hanifi Oguz, Beehive Science and Technology Academy Executive Director, said, “This award is a reflection of how Scott Colby’s leadership, instruction, and guidance help students achieve remarkable success, and his commitment to teaching practical financial skills has led to exceptional outcomes among his students. All of us at Beehive Academy congratulate Scott on this well-deserved accomplishment.”
