BEEHIVE’S FIRST TECH CHALLENGE ROBOTICS TEAM MOVES ON TO STATE FINALS
Beehive Science & Technology Academy’s FIRST Tech Challenge Robotics team won first place in the robot game finals tournament held at West High School on Jan. 13. Twenty-four teams from Northern Utah took place in the competition for students in grades 7 through 12.
FIRST Tech Challenge is a robotics competition for students based on a sports model. Teams of up to 10 students are responsible for designing, building and programming their robots to compete as alliances against other teams.
By winning first place in the robot game finals at West High School, Beehive Science & Technology Academy has become one of 36 teams to compete in the state tournament to be held at Weber State University Feb. 9 and 10. The three top teams from the state tournament will move on to the Super Regional Tournament to be held in Spokane, Wash. March 8 through 11.
The Beehive Science & Technology Academy team received trophies for Design Award and Winning Alliance. In addition, the team was first runner up for the Control Award, second runner up for the Inspire Award and second runner up for the Rockwell Collins Innovate Award. Beehive Science & Technology team member, Trinity Mauer, was also selected as a semi-finalist for the competition’s Dean’s List. She will compete for a finalist during the state competition at Weber State University.
Beehive Science & Technology team members are Peter Beall, Kennan Bell, Jonah Ogden, Liam Poppleton, Moises Molina, Zachary Maynard, Austin Grant, Gus McGuire, Nathan Morgan, Aiden Lowe, Sam Gwynn, Trinity Mauer, Kaden Gordon and Zachary Nelson. Royd Nelson serves as the team’s coach.
