BEEHIVE SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY ACADEMY PROVIDES NATIONALLY RANKED, QUALITY EDUCATION FOR STUDENTS IN THE SANDY COMMUNITY

Established in 2005, Beehive Academy has provided diverse education opportunities and leadership experiences to help prepare their students for college. 

Salt Lake City, UT – Located at 2165 East 9400 South in Sandy, UT, Beehive Science and Technology Academy is a tuition-free, public charter school since 2005 that recently expanded to instruct students grades Kindergarten through 12. The school’s main objective is to develop students who possess critical thinking skills, mathematical reasoning and complex problem-solving abilities, and who will be equipped for college matriculation and work-ready careers in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math.

Project-based learning is at the center of Beehive Academy’s STEM learning and certification programs, leading to increased student engagement, collaborative work ethic and real-world culminating projects that showcase students’ understanding and acquisition of academic vocabulary, math conceptual mastery, problem-solving/reasoning skills and computational fluency-automaticity.Beehive students represent 82 different cultural identities, come from 48 different countries, and originated in 27 different states in the U.S. Over 45% of the Beehive Science and Technology students speak at least one additional language than English at home with families actively communicating in 60 different languages. The Beehive Science and Technology Academy staff is also culturally diverse coming from nine different countries, speaking 16 different languages, and representing 29 different cultures.

Beehive Science and Technology Academy has hosted and organized The Utah STEM Expo for the last eleven years to help contribute to the STEM industry in Utah. Beehive STEM Coordinator/Department Chair Kerrie Upenieks oversees the expo and invites non-profit organizations and STEM-related businesses, to present demonstrations at the event. The event is designed to cover all areas of academics such as coding, robotics, chemistry, and the arts. Students Kindergarten – 4th grade present in groups and individuals, while students 5th – 11th grade conduct solo presentations. The event is designed to cover all areas of academics such as coding, robotics, chemistry, and the arts.

Beehive Science and Technology Academy was also ranked this year as the number one Utah high school and 414th school in the nation by U.S. News & World Report for their annual list. This is the fourth straight year the school has retained the number one Utah ranking from U.S. News & World Report. Schools are ranked on their performance on state-required tests, graduation and how well they prepare students for college.
