BEEHIVE SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY ACADEMY STUDENT NAMED STERLING SCHOLAR IN VISUAL ARTS

Salt Lake City, UT – Beehive Science and Technology Academy student, Emma Lewis, was recently awarded first place in visual arts by Utah’s 2026 Sterling Scholar Awards high school scholarship competition. According to the Sterling Scholar website, “A Sterling Scholar is a high school senior who is publicly recognized and awarded for the pursuit of excellence in scholarship, leadership, and citizenship in the State of Utah. The Deseret News and KSL Broadcast Group developed the program especially to focus attention on outstanding seniors in order to recognize them publicly as well as award cash scholarships and tuition waivers from participating institutions.”

Lewis has been a student at Beehive Science and Technology Academy since 9th grade. She has a great passion for art, working primarily in oil painting and colored pencil. Lewis illustrated a children’s book that was published, and her goal is to be a wildlife biologist specializing in illustration. She’s planning to attend Westminster next year on a Presidential scholarship, and will be studying biology, ecology, zoology and art. “Being the Sterling Scholar in Visual Arts is not merely a title or award for me, but an affirmation that personal challenges can be transformed into excellence as I pursue my artistic and academic growth,” said Lewis.

“Emma Lewis is so deserving of the state Sterling Scholar award. Her art is phenomenal of whatever subject she portrays but particularly that of animals,” said Carol Firmage, Beehive Academy ELS Teacher. “Somehow, she is able to infuse life into her subject that is unique. The inner life of her subjects shines through in a way that doesn’t even happen in a photograph. The talent she exhibits is amazing, and it is very appropriate that she be honored by the state in this way.”

Beehive Academy Executive Director Hanifi Oguz added, “Emma is very deserving of this honor. She is a model student who exemplifies how students from Beehive have thrived at the school. We are proud of her and look forward to hearing of her future successes in life.”
