CLUB DESCRIPTIONS

CMLP(College Leadership and Mentorship Program)
College Mentorship and Leadership Program (CMLP) is a multifaceted program, designed to prepare students to top Colleges. CMLP requires a high level of intensive commitment from participating students and mentors.

Major Components are; 

  • Academics: Being ready for colleges. Academic accomplishment in high school is important, but the Admissions Committee also considers many other criteria, such as community involvement, leadership and distinction in extracurricular activities, and work experience. The Admissions Committee does not use quotas of any kind.
CyberPatriot Club
CyberPatriot is the National Youth Cyber Education Program created by the Air Force Association (AFA) to inspire K-12 students toward careers in cybersecurity or other science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) disciplines critical to our nation’s future. 
At the center of CyberPatriot is the National Youth Cyber Defense Competition, which puts teams of high school and middle school students in the position of newly hired IT professionals tasked with managing the network of a small company. Through a series of online competition rounds, teams are given a set of virtual operating systems and are tasked with finding and fixing cybersecurity vulnerabilities while maintaining critical services.  The top teams in the nation earn trip to Maryland for the National Finals Competition where they can earn national recognition and scholarship money.
Girls Who Code Club
Girls Who Code Clubs are free after-school programs for  6th-8th grade girls to join our sisterhood of supportive peers and role models using computer science to change the world. Join a safe and supportive environment of peers and role models where girls learn to see themselves as computer scientists.Learn the concepts of loops, variables, conditionals and functions that form the basis for all programming languages.

Art Club (Ms. Walloch, Tuesdays, 3:00-3:45, Room C105)
Come and have fun with Art every Tuesday. Come with ideas or something you want to explore in art and we will make it happen. I will also find opportunities for you to enter contests for prizes, scholarships or even cash. I will help you do the best you can to give a better chance of winning.
(To avoid the need for any fees you may have to provide some supplies depending on what you want to do.) We will be continuing our group projects that we were doing in Craft club

Audio Visual Club (Miss Musick, Wednesdays , 3:00-4:00, Room A102)
A.V. Club is the most fun you will ever have after school. We bring the news (announcements) to Beehive with the “Beehive Broadcast.” Students will learn videography, sound, screen presence, interview skills, and MUCH MORE!! Each student will experience each aspect of creating and
producing the broadcast. A.V. Club is also the stage and tech crew for the school talent show in the spring. ALL students are welcome.

Book Club (Fiction) (Mrs. Price, Wednesdays, 3:00-3:45, Room B110)
Come read and discuss fiction pieces on Wednesday afternoons in Mrs. Price’s classroom from 3:00-3:45. As a group, we’ll choose which genres and pieces we’d like to focus on for either the whole year or the first semester, but all books will be works of fiction. We’ll have after-reading parties for each book we finish, so come ready to participate and have a great time.

Dance Committee (Mrs. Allen, Mondays as needed, 3:00-3:45, B104: Library)
The Dance Committee will decide and plan: theme, colors and decorations, what to eat (important!), fun musical games and group dancing, advertising–posters, videos, social media, etc., any other ideas to make it a party (dance).

Drama Club – (Miss Musick, Wednesdays, 3:00-4:00, Room A102)
Come explore your inner actor! Students will learn character development, stage presence, script writing, improvisation, and memorization. Most importantly teamwork, self-discipline, and selfconfidence. Our first “performance” is being crowed walkers at the Fall Festival. “All the world is a stage.” – Shakespeare. ALL students welcome.

FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) Robotics (Mr. Nelson, Mon-Thu, Room A122) (High School Only)
FIRST Tech Challenge is a robotics competition organized by FIRST (www.firstinspires.org). In this club, students learn about building and programming robots for the competition. Students gain an understanding in robot building, programming, design, power tool usage, teamwork and
overcoming challenges in an engineering challenge. There is a $150 fee per student to help cover the cost of materials and competition registrations. Important Note: The selection for this club was made back in May. All available spots are full.

FLL Robotics (Mrs. Mendenhall, Mr. Bryant, Tuesdays, Weds, Thursdays, 3-5pm, Room A118)
This club is part of the FLL Robotics yearlong elective class, where students were selected through a tryout process. FIRST LEGO League teams (middle school students) research a realworld problem such as food safety, recycling, energy, etc., and are challenged to develop a solution. They also must design, build, program a robot using LEGO MINDSTORMS®, then
compete on a table-top playing field.

It all adds up to tons of fun while they learn to apply science, technology, engineering, and math
concepts (STEM), plus a big dose of imagination, to solve a problem. Along their journey, they
develop critical thinking and team-building skills, basic STEM applications, and even presentation
skills, as they must present their solutions with a dash of creativity to judges. They also practice
the Program’s Core Values, which emphasize discovery, teamwork and good sportsmanship.

Gaming Club (Mrs. Harding, Tuesdays, 3:00-3:45, Room B102)
Are you a fan of PvP games or MMOGs? What about TCG games? Have you met NPCs or
conquered a MOBA? Then come to gaming club! We have everything from Nintendo switch to
cards to D and D.

Hiking, Sports, & Games Club (Mr. Harlow & Mrs. Theorine, Wednesdays, 3:00-5:00, B106)
Hiking, Sports, and Games club is hosted by Mr. Harlow and Mrs. Theorine. This club will be held
every Wednesday after school until about 5PM. In the autumn and in the spring we will bring
students to a few local, fun hikes. When the weather turns, we will find fun games to play indoors
or we will play sports in the parking lot or at a nearby park. Some possibilities for sports and
games include volleyball, basketball, or soccer. If you don’t know how to play, we are happy to
teach you! We are open to suggestions from the group for more sports. If you would like to join,
please get a permission slip from Mrs. Theorine and return it by next week Monday. One
permission slip is good for the whole year for all our activities. Hope to see you there!

HOSA Club (Coach Colby, Wednesdays, 3:00-3:45, Room A112) (High School Only)
HOSA is an international student organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education
and the Health Science Education (HSE) Division of ACTE. HOSA’s two-fold mission is to promote
career opportunities in the health care industry and to enhance the delivery of quality health care
to all people. HOSA’s goal is to encourage all health science instructors and students to join and
be actively involved in the HSE-HOSA Partnership.

Imaginarium Club (Ms. Barrus, Fridays, 3:00-3:45, Room B119)
We will be learning Origami, simple science experiments, Lego building, and much more through
the year. The possibilities are endless.

Library Club (Ms. McInnis, Wednesdays, 3:00-3:45, Room B112)
The Library Club is a great opportunity to spend time with books and keep Beehive fully stocked
and inspired for the entire year. Come with your creativity and organizational skills to learn how
to run a successful library.

National Honor Society (Ms. McInnis, Thursdays, 3:00-3:45, Room B112)
The National Honor Society (NHS) is the nation’s premier organization established to recognize
outstanding students. NHS members demonstrate excellence in the areas of scholarship, service,
leadership, and character. In NHS, we plan and execute service projects, school activities, and
support the school and community. In the highly competitive field of college admissions and
scholarships, being a member of the NHS can be the tipping point for college acceptance and
receiving greater number of awards. Any high school or middle school student with a B or better
in every class is welcome to join NHS..

Nerd Club (Mr. Bryant, Wednesdays, 3:00-3:45, Room A116)
Are you interested in chess, video games, anime, comics and manga. Come and join us with your
consoles or video games to share. Don’t forget your controllers!
Science Club (Mr. Vahit, Wednesdays, 3:00-3:45, Room C102)
Science Club is the place for students who are interested in science to learn about all scopes
of science. The purpose of the Science Club is to spark an interest in science that allows students
to explore and question the subject through hands on techniques. A connection between what
happens in everyday life and real applications will be made at each meeting. Students will use the
scientific method and inquiry skills to accomplish tasks. In addition, students work as part of a
team developing essential communication skills. Often times, in science, new developments and
discoveries are not achieved individually. This requires the work and effort of multiple
individuals. This club encourages positive team work and thinking outside the box to achieve a
common goal.

Student Council (Mrs. Firmage, Tuesdays, 3:00-3:45, Room B121)
Student council is an important component in Beehive’s school culture and consists of a
president, vice president, grade representatives, a secretary, historian and two treasurers. The
president and vice president have already been elected, but all the other positions are open for
elections. This group of highly motivated students organize and run many of the extracurricular student activities of the year, such as the student store, dances, school parties, prom,
charity fundraising, and spirit week to name just a few. Attendance after school on Tuesdays
during club time is required for the weekly meetings, as well as some weekend hours for
activities. Parent support is essential for these positions. Students must be elected into this club.

Technology Student Association (TSA) (Dr. Pavlovic, Wednesdays, 3:00-3:45, Room C103)
TSA (Technology Student Association) is a club only offered for High School Students. It is a
chance to participate in many different areas of competition and leadership. Some areas of
competition that are available are 3D Animation, Biotechnology Design, Coding, Engineering
Design, Music Production, Software Development, STEM Careers, Video Game Design, and many
others. We will meet once a week on Wednesdays after school. Our goal will be to find an area
where each member can be successful in the science and technology fields.

The Math Lab (Mr. DeFronzo, Tuesdays through Thursdays, 3:00-3:45, Room B105)
Mr. DeFronzo would like to offer The Math Lab on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday each
week. Students from any grade may come in alone or with friends to work on homework
together. Myself along with peer tutors will be available when tutoring is needed. There will
be calculators and other tools for students to use. Students who attend can expect a quiet and
safe environment to complete work for math or any class, an occasional snack provided by Mr.
D., and Wi-Fi to log in to textbooks and academic websites.

Yearbook Club (Mrs. Walloch, Wednesdays, 3:00-3:45, Room C105)
You can be part of documenting this year’s stories! We will meet on Wednesday in Mrs.
Walloch’s room at first. After a few weeks we will be in the Library so we can use the computers.
It’s great fun to create something that students will cherish for many years to come.
