Value of Draper STEM Programs: Hands-On, Reasoning, Technical

In part one of this two-part blog series, we went over some of the major areas of value provided by STEM school programs for kids of varying ages. Science, technology, engineering and math skills are foundational for so many areas of life, and a focus on them within school programs is often highly beneficial to students as they develop.

At Beehive Science & Technology Academy, we’re here to offer not only a wide variety of STEM programs and classes to our Draper students, but also to provide resources like career exploration, college prep and many others that help prepare students for their eventual future. In today’s part two of our series, we’ll look at some of the other key reasons why more and more parents are looking to STEM programs for their children.

value STEM programs reasoning

Involves Hands-On Education

Research has increasingly shown that kids learn more effectively when they are able to engage in hands-on activities. STEM programs often involve a wide variety of hands-on projects and experiments, which can be very beneficial for kids’ academic growth and success. Additionally, this type of active learning allows students to gain a better understanding and appreciation of the STEM disciplines they are studying.

For instance, math programs within STEM don’t just involve memorizing equations and formulas, but rather can include fun activities like building bridges or creating computer simulations. Such hands-on experiences allow kids to get a better understanding of the concepts they are learning and gain valuable insight into how the world around them works.

Encourages Reasoning

Logic and reasoning are two of the most important skills for succeeding in any STEM-related field. STEM school programs focus on teaching and developing these skills in students from a young age, allowing them to better understand underlying concepts and engage more deeply with their studies.

Problem solving is an area that greatly benefits from logical reasoning, as it involves being able to identify problems, think critically and come up with innovative solutions. STEM schools place a heavy emphasis on this type of learning, which can be incredibly useful in developing analytical thinking as well as providing problem-solving skills that will help students throughout their academic and professional careers.

Develops Technological Skills

Technology is rapidly changing the world around us, and it’s becoming increasingly important for students to be able to use and understand the various tools available. STEM schools are often at the forefront of incorporating new technologies into their classrooms, giving kids an opportunity to learn how to use the latest tech tools and gain an understanding of the potential they hold.

From coding programs to 3D printing projects, there are plenty of ways in which STEM schools can help kids develop the skills they need to succeed in a highly digital world. By providing students with the tools and resources to understand technology, STEM schools are giving them an important advantage that will stay with them for years to come.
